Kohler 83mm Rebuild Center

The 83mm Kohler Command twins are the engines we rebuild parts for most. This page puts everything in one place: which engines this covers, the part numbers our kits replace, and the three checks that get you the right kit the first time.

Check these three things before you order
  1. Model and spec number. They're on the decal on the blower housing. Horsepower alone doesn't tell us which engine you have. Where to find the tag
  2. Bore size. If the engine has been rebuilt before, it may already be oversize. Measure the bore or check the top of the old piston for a stamp.
  3. Ring style (ring-only orders). Measure the top ring's thickness: 1.5mm is Style A, 1.2mm is Style B. A piston-and-ring kit comes matched, so you can skip this one.

Which kit do I need?

  • Full rebuild, bore is good: the complete 83mm rebuild kit (pistons, rings, rods and gaskets).
  • Top end only: the 83mm piston pair with rings, or a single piston with rings, plus a head gasket.
  • Rings only, cylinders are in spec: a Style A or Style B ring set, single or two-pack, with or without gaskets.
  • Cylinders bored oversize: the .010, .020 or .030 overhaul kits or pistons, matched to your machine shop's finished size.
