.010 Over Piston Kit 47-874-10-S Fits Kohler K321 M14
Piston kit .010 inch oversize that fits Kohler K321 and M14 cast iron engines, 14 horsepower, replacing part number 47-874-10-S. The kit contains the piston, ring set, wrist pin and retaining clips. Standard bore on a K321 is 3.500 inch or 88.90mm, so a cylinder bored .010 oversize finishes at 3.510 inch, 89.154mm. This kit is intended for an engine whose cylinder has already been machined oversize, not for a standard bore. Unlike the newer overhead valve engines, which use metric oversizes, the cast iron K-series is sized in true thousandths of an inch at .003, .010, .020 and .030. Take care to identify the engine correctly, since the K-series bores are close together: the K301 is 3.375 inch, the K321 is 3.500 inch and the K341 is 3.750 inch. Measure the finished bore before ordering, and hone the cylinder before assembly.
- FITS KOHLER K321 AND M14 CAST IRON ENGINES, 14 horsepower, whose cylinder has been bored .010 inch oversize. Replaces 47-874-10-S. Standard bore on a K321 is 3.500 inch, 88.90mm, so a .010 oversize cylinder finishes at 3.510 inch, 89.154mm. This kit is for an engine that has already been to the machine shop.
- IN THE KIT: the piston, the ring set, the wrist pin and the retaining clips. Single cylinder engine, so one kit completes it.
- K-SERIES OVERSIZES ARE TRUE INCHES. Unlike the newer overhead valve engines, which use metric oversizes, the cast iron K-series is sized in thousandths of an inch: .003, .010, .020 and .030. So .010 here means exactly ten thousandths, and the finished bore is 3.510 inch. No conversion needed.
- KNOW WHICH K-SERIES YOU HAVE. The bores in this family are an eighth of an inch apart and the blocks look alike. K301 is 3.375 inch, K321 is 3.500, K341 is 3.750. A K301 owner who orders a K321 piston has bought a paperweight. Read the model off the blower housing or the block, and measure the bore before ordering.
- DO THE JOB ONCE. Hone the cylinder so the new rings have a crosshatch to bed into, check the rod and the crank journal while you are in there, and fit a new head gasket and breather gasket. Set the ring end gaps to your engine manual with each ring squared in the bore, and stagger the gaps around the piston on assembly.
