52mm piston kit that fits the Stihl 046 and MS460 chainsaws: piston, rings, piston pin and clips. Replaces part number 1128-030-2009. Measure the old piston before ordering. Look at the cylinder through the exhaust port before fitting a piston alone, since deep scoring or flaking plating means the cylinder needs replacing too. Find the cause of the old failure, pressure and vacuum test the crankcase, use a new base gasket and a ring compressor, and fit the clips with their openings away from the slot.

• CHECK THE CYLINDER, NOT JUST THE PISTON - Pull the muffler and look through the exhaust port. Light transfer marks hone out; deep scoring or flaking plating means the cylinder needs replacing too.
• FIND OUT WHY IT FAILED - A scored piston had a cause: a hardened crankshaft seal, a split intake boot, a lean carburetor setting or the wrong fuel mix. Pressure and vacuum test the crankcase before the new piston runs.
• ON ASSEMBLY - Use a ring compressor, fit the clips with their openings away from the slot, check ring end gap in the bore, and use a new base gasket.
