Piston ring set and engine gasket set for the Tecumseh HH120 engine. Replaces Tecumseh ring set 32241 and gasket set 33237B, which supersedes the earlier numbers 33237 and 33237A. WHAT THE HH120 IS. Twelve horsepower, single cylinder, cast iron block and cast iron head, L-head side valve rather than overhead valve, horizontal shaft. The bore is 3-1/2 inches and the stroke is 2.875 inches, giving 27.66 cubic inches. In Tecumseh's own naming the HH prefix means horizontal heavy duty cast iron, and the number is the horsepower. THIS IS FOR THE HH120 AND NOT THE HH100. The two engines look alike and sat in the same tractors, but the HH120 is a 3-1/2 inch bore and the HH100 is 3-5/16 inches. The ring set in this listing is the 3-1/2 inch set and it will not work in an HH100. Find the model and specification number on the engine plate and read it off there rather than going by the machine the engine is in. STANDARD SIZE - MEASURE THE CYLINDER BEFORE ORDERING. These are standard bore rings. These engines are sixty years old and most have been bored at least once, and a bored cylinder needs the matching oversize ring set, which is a separate part number for each of .010, .020, .030 and .040 inches. Measuring the bore takes a minute and it is the difference between a rebuild and a return. WHAT THE GASKET SET COVERS. The 33237B set is a full engine gasket set rather than a single head gasket. It carries the cylinder head gasket, the head shim gaskets that set deck clearance, the cylinder cover gasket, the valve cover gasket, the air cleaner gasket and the carburetor to intake pipe gasket. Crankshaft seals are not included and are worth replacing while the engine is apart. AVAILABILITY. Tecumseh shut its engine division in 2008 and the parts business went elsewhere. Standard size rings for the cast iron engines are the scarcest part of what remains in circulation.

  • PISTON RING SET AND ENGINE GASKET SET FOR THE TECUMSEH HH120 - Replaces Tecumseh ring set number 32241 and gasket set number 33237B, which supersedes the earlier 33237 and 33237A. The HH120 is the 12 horsepower cast iron engine with a 3-1/2 inch bore and a 2.875 inch stroke, 27.66 cubic inches.
  • HH120 ONLY - THE HH100 IS A DIFFERENT BORE AND WILL NOT TAKE THIS RING SET - The HH120 is 3-1/2 inch. The HH100 is 3-5/16 inch. That is three sixteenths of an inch of difference and no amount of goodwill closes it. Read the model number off the engine plate, not off the tractor hood, before you order.
  • THIS IS THE STANDARD SIZE SET - MEASURE YOUR BORE FIRST - These are standard bore rings. Most HH120 engines still running have been bored at least once in sixty years, and an oversize engine needs an oversize ring set under a different part number - .010, .020, .030 and .040 are each their own number. Measure the cylinder before you order rings.
  • WHAT IS IN THE GASKET SET - The 33237B set is the engine gasket set, not a head gasket on its own. It includes the cylinder head gasket, the cylinder head shim gaskets used to set deck clearance, the cylinder cover gasket, the valve cover gasket, the air cleaner gasket and the carburetor to intake pipe gasket. Crankshaft seals are not part of it.
  • WHY THESE ARE HARD TO FIND NOW - Tecumseh closed its engine division in 2008 and sold the parts tooling on. Standard size rings for the cast iron engines are the scarce end of what is left, which is why it is worth measuring once and ordering right the first time. An L-head cast iron engine is worth the trouble when the parts are there.
