Piston Ring Set for Briggs 350400 350700 351700 72mm 843793
Standard piston ring set for the Briggs & Stratton 35 cubic inch V twin. Replaces 843793 and the earlier 807889. HOW MANY YOU NEED One set covers one cylinder. These engines are V twins with two cylinders, so a complete rebuild needs TWO sets. Order quantity two here, or buy our two pack listing instead if you would rather have both in one shipment. SPECIFICATION Bore - 72mm, 2.835 inch, standard Stroke - 70mm Displacement - 570cc, 35 cubic inches Configuration - overhead valve V twin, air cooled, 18 to 20 horsepower class MODELS. 350400, 350700 and 351700 as listed, and the same ring set is catalogued for 350442, 350445, 350447, 356442, 356447, 356777, 358777 and 359447. FINDING YOUR NUMBERS. The model, type and code numbers are stamped into the blower housing or on a decal on the engine itself. The tag on the machine carries the equipment builder's own number, which will not help you here. RELATED PARTS 843793 - this ring set, standard 843792 - standard piston 807889 - the older ring set number this one replaces STANDARD SIZE ONLY. These rings are cut for a standard 72mm bore. If the cylinders have been bored oversize, standard rings will not seal. Once rings have been fitted they cannot be returned, so measure first or ask whoever did the machining. BEFORE YOU ASSEMBLE Check the bore for taper and for glaze. New rings will not seat in a glazed bore. Check ring end gap in the bore each ring will run in, not just in one cylinder. Check side clearance in the piston ring grooves - worn grooves pass oil even with new rings. After any honing, wash the cylinders in hot soapy water and dry them. Honing grit left in the bore will ruin new rings quickly. Fit the oil control ring assembly in the right order and make sure the expander ends butt rather than overlap.
- ONE SET COVERS ONE CYLINDER - This is a single standard ring set for a 72mm bore. These are V twin engines with two cylinders, so a full rebuild takes TWO sets. Order two here, or buy our two pack listing in one go. Tearing the engine down and then finding out you are one set short is the mistake we most want you to avoid.
- REPLACES 843793 AND THE OLDER 807889 - Standard size, 72mm or 2.835 inch bore. The matching standard piston is 843792 if yours are scored and need replacing too. Rings follow the bore, so if your cylinders have been machined oversize these standard rings will not seal and cannot be returned once fitted.
- FITS THE 35 CUBIC INCH V TWIN FAMILY - 570cc, bore 72mm, stroke 70mm, overhead valve V twin in the 18 to 20 horsepower class. Models 350400, 350700 and 351700, and the same set carries across 350442, 350445, 350447, 356442, 356447, 356777, 358777 and 359447. The numbers are stamped on the blower housing, not on the machine tag.
- FIVE PIECES, WHICH IS ONE CYLINDER - A set is five rings: the top compression ring, the second compression ring, and a three piece oil control ring made up of two rails and an expander. That is one cylinder's worth, which is exactly why a V twin needs two sets. Check ring end gap in the bore the rings will actually run in, and check side clearance in the piston grooves while you are there.
- WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE - Measure the bore for taper and glaze before you fit new rings. New rings in a worn, glazed bore will not seat and the engine will smoke however carefully you build it. Hone lightly, then wash the cylinders out with hot soapy water to carry the grit clear, because honing grit left behind will destroy new rings in a few hours of running.
