Set of two felling dog bar spikes that fits McCulloch 610, 650, 655, 605 Timber Bear and Eager Beaver 3.7 chainsaws. Bar spikes are the pivot point when a saw is rolled through a cut. Once the points are rounded over they skate on the bark rather than biting into it, and the saw has to be forced rather than levered. On a large-displacement saw this makes a noticeable difference to control and to how tiring the work is. Spikes wear as a pair and are supplied as a pair here. Fitting a single new spike alongside a worn one leaves the saw pivoting unevenly. Different spike patterns were used across the range and across generations. The models listed share this pattern. If your saw is another model, count the mounting holes and compare against the photograph before ordering. Mounting bolts take shock loading every time the saw is set into a cut and are worth replacing at the same time if the heads are rounded.

  • FITS McCULLOCH 610, 650, 655, 605 TIMBER BEAR AND EAGER BEAVER 3.7 chainsaws. A set of two felling dog bar spikes, sold as a pair, for the professional saws of that era. Replaces spikes that have been bent, snapped or worn round on the points.
  • SOLD AS A SET OF TWO. Bar spikes work as a pair and they wear as a pair, so replacing only one leaves the saw pivoting unevenly against the cut. Both are supplied here, which is what the job actually needs.
  • SHARP SPIKES CHANGE HOW THE SAW CUTS. Felling dogs are the pivot point when you roll a saw through a cut. Once the points are rounded over they skate on the bark instead of biting, and you end up muscling the saw rather than levering it. On a large-displacement saw that is the difference between controlled cutting and a fight.
  • CHECK YOUR MOUNTING BEFORE ORDERING. Spike patterns changed across the range and generations. The 610, 650, 655, 605 Timber Bear and Eager Beaver 3.7 share this pattern. If your saw is a different model, count the mounting holes and compare against the photograph before you buy.
  • REPLACE THE MOUNTING HARDWARE IF IT IS TIRED. Spike bolts take shock loading every time the saw is set into a cut, and old ones round off in the head. Fitting new spikes onto stretched bolts is a false economy - the spikes will loosen and start chewing at the saw body.
