Clutch assembly that fits the Stihl 029, 029 Super and 039 chainsaws and the MS290, MS310 and MS390. Replaces clutch 1127-160-2051 (1127 160 2051). Replace it when the chain creeps at idle with the idle set correctly, stalls in the cut while the engine revs, or the drum is heat-marked. Check the drum and needle bearing while the clutch is off and grease the bearing. The clutch has a left-hand thread; lock the piston with a piston stop, not a screwdriver, and tighten the new clutch firmly.

  • CLUTCH ASSEMBLY - Replaces clutch 1127-160-2051, also written 1127 160 2051.
  • FITS STIHL 029, 029 SUPER AND 039 - And the MS290, MS310 and MS390 that followed them. Compare it with the clutch on your saw before fitting.
  • SIGNS THE CLUTCH IS DONE - The chain creeps at idle with the idle speed set right, the chain stalls in the cut while the engine revs, or the drum shows blue heat marks. A broken spring or worn shoes are the usual causes.
  • CHECK THE DRUM AND BEARING - A clutch working against a worn or grooved drum, or a dry needle bearing, does not last. Look at both while the clutch is off, and grease the bearing.
  • FITTING IT - The clutch unscrews clockwise (left-hand thread) on these saws. Lock the piston with a piston stop or rope through the plug hole, never a screwdriver, and tighten the new clutch firmly the same way.
