80mm Rings Gasket Set Fits Kohler CH23 CH670 CH680

Re-ring and reseal package for the 80mm Kohler twin cylinder engines. Contents: two Style B piston ring sets, one per cylinder, replacing 24-108-26-S; a complete gasket and seal set; both crankshaft seals; and a tube of crankcase sealant for the closure plate and oil pan joint. Rings and gaskets only, with no pistons supplied. Ring style matters here because the pistons stay in the engine. The factory fitted two piston styles to this bore: Style B takes a 1.2mm top ring and Style A takes 1.5mm. Measure the old top ring or the top piston groove with a caliper before ordering. If it reads 1.5mm you need the Style A set, 24-108-18-S standard or 24-108-21-S oversize, rather than this one. Both styles went into the same engine models, so the model number cannot answer the question and the measurement can. This set is sized for the 80.00mm standard bore. The factory oversize steps are plus 0.08mm, plus 0.25mm and plus 0.50mm, with Style B sets 24-108-27-S, 24-108-28-S and 24-108-29-S. Fits CH23 and CV23, CH670 and CV670, CH680 and CV680, all 674cc. The 77mm group, CH18 through CH22 and CH620 to CH641, and the 83mm group, CH25 and up, take different ring sets. Before assembly, measure the bore for taper and out of round, check ring end gap in the bore each ring will run in, and check side clearance in the groove. The top and second rings are bidirectional. These engines use hydraulic lifters, so there is no valve lash adjustment after assembly.

• MEASURE YOUR TOP RING - 1.2MM IS THIS KIT - Kohler ran two piston styles on the 80mm bore. Style B takes a 1.2mm top ring and Style A takes 1.5mm. Put a caliper across the old top ring, or across the top groove in the piston. If it reads 1.2mm, this is your set. If it reads 1.5mm you have Style A pistons and need the Style A rings, 24-108-18-S standard or 24-108-21-S oversize. Both styles went into the same engine models, so the model number cannot answer this - only the measurement can.
• STANDARD 80MM BORE - Sized for the 80.00mm standard bore. Kohler's oversize steps on this bore are plus 0.08mm, plus 0.25mm and plus 0.50mm, and the matching Style B ring sets are 24-108-27-S, 24-108-28-S and 24-108-29-S. If your block has been machined, order the set for the size the shop actually cut rather than this one. Measure the bore for taper and out of round before you commit to a re-ring at all, because rings will not seal a worn cylinder however carefully they are fitted.
• FITS THE 80MM KOHLER TWINS - CH23 and CV23, CH670 and CV670, CH680 and CV680. These are the 674cc engines. The 77mm engines, CH18 through CH22 and the CH620 to CH641 group, take a different ring set, and the 83mm engines, CH25 and up, take another again. Read the model and spec numbers off the blower housing decal; horsepower alone will not get you to the right bore because the same horsepower was sold on more than one block.
• WHAT ELSE THE JOB WANTS - Check ring end gap in the bore each ring will run in, and side clearance in the piston groove, before anything goes together. Scuff the bore with a hone so the rings have a surface to bed into. The top and second rings are bidirectional, so there is no up side to get wrong, but the oil rails and expander go in in order. Clean the oil pan and closure plate faces to bare metal before the sealant goes on. These engines run hydraulic lifters, so there is no lash to set.
