One governor spring that fits the Kohler K301, K321, K341 and K361 cast iron engines, replacing part number 47-091-01-S. Please note that not every engine of these models used this spring, so compare the length, coil count and hook ends with your old spring and with the picture before fitting it. The governor spring connects the governor arm to the throttle; a stretched or weak spring shows up as surging, hunting or an engine that will not reach its governed speed. Mark which hole the old spring hooks into before removing it, fit the new one in the same place, check the governor linkage for wear, and set the top speed with a tachometer to the figure in your service manual.
- ONE GOVERNOR SPRING, REPLACES 47-091-01-S - The spring that connects the governor arm to the throttle and sets how hard the governor holds engine speed.
- FITS KOHLER K301, K321, K341 AND K361 - Not every engine of these models used this spring. Compare the length, the coil count and the hook ends with your old spring before fitting it.
- SIGNS OF A TIRED SPRING - An engine that surges or hunts at speed, will not reach its governed top speed, or bogs badly under load can have a stretched or weak governor spring.
- NOTE THE HOLE BEFORE YOU UNHOOK IT - The spring hooks into one of several holes in the governor and throttle levers, and the hole sets the governed speed. Mark it before removing the old spring and refit the new one in the same place.
- CHECK THE LINKAGE AND SET THE SPEED - Look for wear in the governor arm, the linkage and the throttle shaft while you are there, and set the top speed with a tachometer to the figure in your service manual.
