Gasket Set with Seals Briggs 7HP 8HP L Head Engine 299577
Complete engine gasket set with crankshaft seals for Briggs & Stratton 7 and 8 horsepower L-head engines. Replaces Briggs part number 299577. Contents: cylinder head gasket, crankcase gasket, intake gasket, exhaust gasket, breather gasket and crankshaft seals. The seals are the part worth noting. The Briggs set catalogued under 299577 is gaskets only - the crankshaft oil seals are separate line items and are not in the box. This set includes them, so the engine goes back together in one pass. Fits model ranges 190400 through 196799, horizontal or vertical shaft. Read the model, type and code stamped on the blower housing and confirm it falls in that range before ordering. Bore is 3 inches. Write that down if the block is going to a machine shop. One thing that catches rebuilders on this engine: crankshaft end play is set by the thickness of the crankcase gasket, and Briggs supplies that gasket in more than one thickness. This set contains one thickness. If end play measures out of spec on assembly, the crankcase gasket is what you change. The near miss to avoid is Briggs 498533, the valve overhaul set - head gasket and breather gasket only. If you are splitting the crankcase you need the full engine set, which is this one. Pistons, rings, valves, valve springs and head bolts are not included.
- COMPLETE GASKET SET WITH SEALS - Head gasket, crankcase gasket, intake gasket, exhaust gasket, breather gasket and crankshaft seals. Replaces Briggs & Stratton part number 299577. The seals matter: the Briggs set sold under 299577 alone does NOT include them, and being short a crank seal mid-rebuild is how a weekend job becomes a two-weekend job.
- FITS 7 AND 8 HORSEPOWER BRIGGS L HEAD ENGINES - Model ranges 190400 through 196799, horizontal or vertical shaft. Read the model, type and code stamped on the blower housing and check it falls in that range before ordering.
- THREE INCH BORE - That is the figure your machine shop needs if the block is going out to be bored, and it is the quickest way to confirm you have the right engine family before you order.
- CRANKCASE GASKET THICKNESS SETS YOUR END PLAY - Briggs supplies the crankcase gasket in more than one thickness for exactly that reason, and this set contains one of them. If crankshaft end play comes out wrong on assembly, that is the part you change - not the seals, and not the bearings.
- DO NOT CONFUSE WITH THE VALVE OVERHAUL SET - Briggs 498533 is a small valve-job set, head gasket and breather only. It is not this. If you are splitting the crankcase, you want the full engine set. Pistons, rings, valves and the head bolts are not included.
