Complete engine overhaul kit for the Kohler CH23 and CV23, 674cc, 80mm standard bore. Contains two pistons with rings, two gasket sets, two intake valves, two exhaust valves, two valve stem seals, a breather gasket, crankshaft seals and crankcase sealer, which is everything a full teardown needs in one order. This kit is for cylinders still at standard size and within service limits; measure both bores before ordering, since a standard piston will not seal in a cylinder that has been machined oversize. Kohler built the 80mm engines with two ring packages, Style A with a 1.5mm top ring and Style B with 1.2mm, and the piston ring grooves are machined accordingly. Ring style follows the piston rather than the model number, so measure the top ring from the old piston before ordering. Note also that several Kohler Command models were produced at more than one displacement, with the 624cc engines at 77mm and the 674cc engines at 80mm, so identify the engine by its spec number rather than its badge.
- FITS THE KOHLER CH23 AND CV23, 674cc, 80mm standard bore. A complete overhaul in one box rather than eleven separate orders: two pistons with rings, two gasket sets, two intake and two exhaust valves, two valve stem seals, a breather gasket, crankshaft seals and crankcase sealer. If the engine is smoking, down on compression, or has sat long enough to need everything, this is the whole job.
- VERIFY YOUR BORE, AND THIS IS NOT BOILERPLATE. Kohler built several Command models at more than one displacement. The 624cc engines are 77mm and the 674cc engines are 80mm, and CH620 and CH640 exist in both. The CH23 and CV23 are 674cc, but if you are working from a model badge alone on any Command engine, the spec number on the tag is what settles the bore. Nothing in an 80mm kit fits a 77mm block.
- CHECK YOUR RING STYLE BEFORE ORDERING. Kohler built the 80mm engines with two ring packages: Style A with a 1.5mm top ring and Style B with 1.2mm, and the piston grooves are machined to match. The style follows the piston, not the model number, so pull a ring from the old piston and measure it. Ordering the wrong style means rings that flutter and pump oil from the first hour.
- STANDARD BORE ONLY. This kit is for cylinders still within service limits and not machined oversize. Measure both bores before ordering. If either has been bored, you need the matching oversize parts and a standard piston will not seal in it.
- THE BREATHER GASKET AND THE SEALER ARE IN THE BOX. Those are the two pieces people discover they are missing at nine at night with the engine apart, because most overhaul kits leave them out. Hone both cylinders so the new rings have a crosshatch to bed into, check rod bearing clearance and the crank journals, and torque everything in sequence and in stages to your engine manual.
