Chrome Piston Rings 48-108-05-S Fits Kohler K582 23 HP

Standard chrome-faced piston ring set that fits the Kohler K582 23 HP cast iron twin. Replaces ring set 48-108-05-S, for a cylinder at the standard 3.500 inch bore. The K582 has two cylinders, so a full ring job takes one set per cylinder. Measure each bore first: a cylinder bored oversize needs oversize rings, and chrome rings need a properly honed bore to seat, so hone for a crosshatch. Check end gap in the bore, fit the rings marking up, stagger the gaps and use a ring compressor. Pistons and gaskets are not included.

• MEASURE THE BORE FIRST - A cylinder that has been bored oversize needs the matching oversize rings. On a standard bore, check taper and out of round before you buy rings.
• CHROME NEEDS A HONED BORE - Chrome-faced rings are hard and last a long time, but they need a properly honed cylinder to seat. In a glazed or worn bore they will not bed in and the engine keeps smoking.
• FITTING THEM - Check end gap with each ring squared in its bore, fit each ring with any marking facing up, stagger the gaps and use a ring compressor. Pistons and gaskets are not included.
