Briggs Vanguard 75.5mm Rings & Tune Up Kit No Pistons 843806
Re-ring and service kit for the 38 cubic inch Briggs & Stratton Vanguard V twin, 75.5mm standard bore. Two ring sets plus gaskets, filters, plugs and assembly lube. Pistons are NOT included. WHAT IS INCLUDED 2 x 843806 standard 75.5mm piston ring set, one per cylinder - supersedes 808528 1 x engine gasket set with seals 2 x 492932S oil filter 1 x fuel filter 2 x spark plug, cross-references RC12YC 1 x 4 oz semi-synthetic engine assembly lube NOT INCLUDED - pistons and valves. This is a re-ring kit for an engine with good pistons and a bore still within service limit. If the pistons are scuffed, the ring grooves worn, or the valves burnt, a rebuild kit with pistons is the right purchase. SPECIFICATION Bore - 75.5mm, 2.973 inch, standard Stroke - 70mm Displacement - 627cc, 38.2 cubic inches Rating - approximately 18 to 23 horsepower Configuration - OHV V twin MODELS. 381447, 384445, 384447, 385442, 385445, 385447, 385777, 386442, 386447, 386777, 389445, 389447, 389575 and 38E347. THE GASKET SET COVERS EVERY APPLICATION LISTED. This gasket set was revised more than once and the old numbers supersede forward: 841188 to 84010902, 847319 to 84010903, 842722 and 808704 both to 84006710. Our kit includes the different head gaskets for every application in the fitment list, so one kit serves whichever revision your engine takes. WHAT THIS DOES NOT FIT. The 29 and 30 series Vanguard V twins run a 68mm bore at approximately 480cc and take a different ring set entirely. Seven millimetres of bore difference is invisible from the outside of an assembled engine, which is exactly why the model number matters more than the horsepower badge or the size of the machine. DO NOT SELECT BY HORSEPOWER. Briggs rated these engines differently across applications, so horsepower is not a reliable way to identify parts. Read the model, type and code numbers stamped on the blower housing. QUANTITY. A ring set covers one cylinder. A V twin needs two, and two are supplied. IDENTIFYING YOUR ENGINE. These engines went into commercial mowers, riding mowers, zero turns and generators across many equipment makes, so the machine's tag carries the equipment maker's number. The engine numbers are on the blower housing. BEFORE RE-RINGING. Measure bore taper and out-of-round, and inspect the ring grooves in the existing pistons. Rings in a worn bore will not seal and the engine will smoke. Wash cylinders in hot soapy water after honing, and check ring end gap in the bore each ring will actually run in.
- RINGS, NOT PISTONS - READ THIS FIRST - Two 843806 standard 75.5mm piston ring sets, one per cylinder, and no pistons. 843806 supersedes 808528, so either number gets you here. This kit suits an engine with good pistons and a bore still within service limit; scuffed pistons or a worn bore need a rebuild kit with pistons instead.
- WHAT ELSE IS IN THE BOX - Engine gasket set with seals, two 492932S oil filters, one fuel filter, two spark plugs cross-referencing RC12YC, and 4 oz of semi-synthetic assembly lube with zinc and moly for pre-lubing bearings, cams, lifters and valve train.
- THE GASKET SET COVERS EVERY VERSION IN THE FITMENT LIST - The engine gasket set was revised across this family and the old numbers supersede forward: 841188 became 84010902, 847319 became 84010903, and 842722 and 808704 both became 84006710. Our kit includes the different head gaskets for every application listed, so you do not have to identify which revision you have before you order.
- FITS THE 38 CUBIC INCH VANGUARD V TWIN - Bore 75.5mm, 2.973 inch, standard. 627cc, 38.2 cubic inches, 70mm stroke, roughly 18 to 23 horsepower. Models 381447, 384445, 384447, 385442, 385445, 385447, 385777, 386442, 386447, 386777, 389445, 389447, 389575 and 38E347. Do not select by horsepower alone - verify the model, type and code stamped on the blower housing.
- NOT THE 68MM ENGINE - The 29 and 30 series Vanguard V twins are a 68mm bore at around 480cc, and they take a completely different ring set. Seven millimetres of bore is not something you can eyeball from the outside of an assembled engine, so check the model number rather than the size of the machine it is bolted into.
