Re-ring and service kit for the 68mm Briggs & Stratton Vanguard OHV V twin. Two standard ring sets plus the gaskets, filters, plugs and assembly lube. Pistons are NOT included. WHAT IS INCLUDED 2 x 807620 standard 68mm piston ring set, one per cylinder 1 x engine gasket set with seals 2 x 492932S oil filter 1 x fuel filter 2 x spark plug, cross-references RC12YC 1 x 4 oz semi-synthetic engine assembly lube NOT INCLUDED - pistons and valves. This is a re-ring kit. It suits an engine with good pistons and a bore still within service limit. If the pistons are scuffed or the bore is worn, the full rebuild kit with pistons and valves is the correct choice and it will save you opening the engine twice. SPECIFICATION Bore - 68mm, 2.677 inch, standard Stroke - 66mm Displacement - approximately 480cc, 29.3 cubic inches Configuration - OHV V twin MODELS. 290442, 290446, 290447, 290772, 290777, 294440, 294442, 294446, 294447, 294772, 294775, 294776, 294777, 303707, 303772, 303775, 303776 and 303777. THE GASKET SET COVERS EVERY APPLICATION LISTED. Briggs revised the engine gasket set for this family more than once, and the old numbers supersede forward: 841188 to 84010902, 847319 to 84010903, 842722 and 808704 both to 84006710. Rather than ask you to identify which revision your engine takes, our kit includes the different head gaskets for every application in the fitment list above. One kit, whichever version you have. WHAT THE ASSEMBLY LUBE IS FOR. Semi-synthetic, with zinc and moly. It is applied to bearings, cams, lifters and the valve train during assembly so the first start is not a dry one. Oil takes a few seconds to reach the top of an engine that has been apart, and those are the seconds that do the damage. QUANTITY. A ring set covers one cylinder. A V twin needs two, and two are supplied. IDENTIFYING YOUR ENGINE. These engines went into riding mowers, zero turns, commercial mowers and generators across many equipment makes, so the machine's own tag carries the equipment maker's number. The engine model, type and code are stamped on the blower housing. BEFORE RE-RINGING. Measure bore taper and out-of-round, and inspect the ring grooves in the existing pistons. Rings in a worn bore will not seal. After honing, wash the cylinders in hot soapy water to carry out the grit, and check ring end gap in the bore each ring will run in.

  • RINGS, NOT PISTONS - READ THIS FIRST - This kit re-rings an engine whose pistons and bores are still good. It contains two 807620 standard 68mm piston ring sets, one per cylinder, and no pistons. If your pistons are scuffed or the bore is worn past service limit you need new pistons as well, and the full rebuild kit with pistons and valves is the one you want instead.
  • WHAT ELSE IS IN THE BOX - Engine gasket set with seals, two 492932S oil filters, one fuel filter, two spark plugs cross-referencing RC12YC, and 4 oz of semi-synthetic assembly lube with zinc and moly for pre-lubing bearings, cams, lifters and valve train. Enough to do both cylinders and the service at the same time.
  • THE GASKET SET COVERS EVERY VERSION IN THE FITMENT LIST - The engine gasket set was revised several times across this family and the numbers chain: 841188 became 84010902, 847319 became 84010903, and 842722 and 808704 both became 84006710. Our kit includes the different head gaskets for every application listed, so you do not have to work out which revision your engine takes before ordering.
  • FITS THE 68MM VANGUARD OHV V TWIN - Bore 68mm, 2.677 inch, standard. Roughly 480cc, 29.3 cubic inches, 66mm stroke. Models 290442, 290446, 290447, 290772, 290777, 294440, 294442, 294446, 294447, 294772, 294775, 294776, 294777, 303707, 303772, 303775, 303776 and 303777. Read the model, type and code stamped on the blower housing.
  • BEFORE YOU RE-RING - Measure the bore for taper and glaze. New rings in a worn or tapered bore will smoke and pass oil however carefully you fit them, and that engine wants boring and oversize parts instead. Check the piston ring grooves for wear while you are there, and wash the cylinders out after any honing so machining grit does not go in with the new rings.
