Cylinder and piston kit, 52mm, for the Stihl 038 Magnum. Replaces Stihl part number 1119-020-1202. Fits 038M, 038MW, 038MR, 038MRII and MS380. The kit includes the cylinder, piston, two piston rings, wrist pin, circlips, cylinder base gasket and exhaust gasket. This kit will not fit the 038, the 038AV or the 038 Super. Those saws are 50mm and use a different cylinder bolt pattern, so the 52mm cylinder will not mount. If you have one of those, the part you want is 1119-020-1201. The early base 038 is 48mm, part number 1119-020-1200. Measure the bore rather than going by the badge. The MS381 is also 52mm but carries its own number, 1119-020-1204. MS380 and MS381 cylinders are usually supplied with a port for a decompression valve; 038 Magnum cylinders generally are not. Match the decomp provision to your saw. Numbers worth writing on the parts sheet: piston ring 1115-034-3010 at 52mm by 1.5mm, two rings per piston; cylinder base gasket 1119-029-2302; muffler gasket 1125-149-0601. Some vendors cross-reference this assembly to 1119-020-1215. Crankshaft, bearings, crank seals and the piston needle bearing are not included. Before you run it, pressure and vacuum test the crankcase. An air leak at the crank seals or the intake boot leans the mixture and will score a new piston the same way it scored the old one.

- PRESSURE TEST BEFORE YOU RUN IT - An air leak at the crank seals or the intake boot leans the mixture and will score a new piston the same way it scored the old one. Pressure and vacuum test the crankcase before you put fuel through it, and clean the exhaust port and muffler screen while the cylinder is off. Crankshaft, bearings, crank seals and the piston needle bearing are not included.
