Fuel line and filter kit for the Homelite Super XL 925 and related saws. WHAT IS IN THE KIT Long lower fuel line, tank to carburetor - replaces Homelite 65593 and 65593A Short upper fuel line - replaces Homelite 65718 and 65718B Felt fuel filter - replaces Homelite 64083 These saws run TWO fuel lines, which is why there are three pieces in the kit. A great many listings for this saw only mention one line. SUPPLIED AS STRAIGHT HOSE. Homelite's original lines were pre-formed with a bend molded into them and have long been out of production. This kit uses straight fuel-rated hose, cut to length, which is how these saws are repaired now. It routes the same way and seals at the grommet just as well - and unlike the original rubber it does not harden and split with age. Trim to suit when you fit it. FITS Super XL 925, SXL925 XL-98A, XL-98B, XL-98C, XL-98D XL-901, XL-902, XL-903, XL-904 XL-921, XL-922, XL-923, XL-924 VI-944, VI-955 WHY THE FUEL LINE IS USUALLY THE FAULT. On a saw of this age the line hardens and cracks, almost always where it passes through the tank grommet. That lets air into the fuel. An engine drawing air runs lean, and lean gives you exactly the symptoms people blame on the carburetor - hard starting, an idle that hunts and will not settle, and a bog when you open the throttle. A carburetor rebuild on a saw with a cracked fuel line changes nothing. Do the line first. CHECK THE TANK GROMMET. The rubber grommet the line passes through perishes on the same schedule as the line. If it is hard or split, or the line pulls through it without resistance, it is leaking air too and should be replaced at the same time. FITTING. A smear of fuel-safe lubricant helps the line through the grommet without tearing it. Fit the filter to the line before drawing it down into the tank. Make sure the pickup can still reach fuel when the saw is tipped over for felling, and that the line is not kinked at the carburetor end.

  • TWO LINES AND A FILTER - THESE SAWS USE TWO - The long lower line runs from the tank to the carburetor and replaces Homelite 65593 and 65593A. The short upper line replaces 65718 and 65718B. The felt filter replaces 64083. Your parts diagram shows both lines, which is why a kit for this saw has three pieces in it and not two.
  • SUPPLIED AS STRAIGHT HOSE, NOT MOLDED - Homelite's original was a pre-formed line with a bend in it, and those have not been made in decades. This kit uses straight fuel-rated hose cut to length, which is how the trade repairs these saws now. It routes the same way, it seals at the grommet just as well, and it does not go hard and crack the way the old molded rubber did. Trim to suit on fitting.
  • FITS THE SUPER XL 925 AND THE WHOLE XL98 AND 900 FAMILY - Super XL 925 and SXL925, XL-98A, XL-98B, XL-98C, XL-98D, XL-901, XL-902, XL-903, XL-904, XL-921, XL-922, XL-923, XL-924, VI-944 and VI-955. One fuel system across the lot.
  • WHY THE LINE GOES FIRST ON THESE SAWS - The line hardens with age and splits where it passes through the tank grommet. That lets air into the fuel, which leans the engine out and gives you hard starting, a hunting idle and a bog under load - the symptoms most people take to be a carburetor fault. Replacing the carburetor on a cracked line fixes nothing.
  • CHECK THE TANK GROMMET WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE - The grommet the line passes through perishes on saws of this age and is the other half of the same air leak. If yours is hard, cracked, or the line pulls through it too easily, replace it at the same time or you will be back in the tank.
