Ignition tune-up kit for the Kohler KT17 and KT19 opposed twins. The kit holds one set of breaker points, 47-150-03-S, one condenser, 52-147-01-S, and two RV17YC spark plugs, one for each cylinder: the three parts a breaker-point ignition needs at service time. Set the point gap at .020 inch with the points fully open on the cam lobe; a gap that is off moves the timing as well as the dwell, and that is where a rough-running twin is usually put right. Change the condenser with the points, because a weak condenser burns and pits new points within hours. Gap the plugs to the figure in your service manual and tighten them to the manual's torque. While the cover is off, look over the plug leads for cracks, the coil connections for corrosion and the point cover seal that keeps water and dirt off the points.
- FITS KOHLER KT17 AND KT19 OPPOSED TWINS - One set of ignition points 47-150-03-S, one condenser 52-147-01-S and two RV17YC spark plugs, one per cylinder. The three parts a breaker-point ignition needs at service time, in one order.
- SET THE POINT GAP AT .020 INCH - Turn the engine until the points sit fully open on the cam lobe, then set the gap with a feeler gauge. A gap that is off moves the timing as well as the dwell, so this is where a rough-running twin is usually put right.
- CHANGE THE CONDENSER WITH THE POINTS - A weak condenser burns and pits a new set of points within hours of running. Replacing the two together is what makes a tune-up last the season instead of the week.
- GAP AND TORQUE THE PLUGS - Check each plug gap against the figure in your service manual before fitting and tighten to the manual's torque. Both cylinders get a new plug; one old plug next to one new plug makes a misfire hard to trace.
- LOOK OVER THE REST OF THE IGNITION WHILE YOU ARE THERE - Plug leads for cracking, coil connections for corrosion, and the breaker-point cover for a seal that keeps water and dirt off the points.
