STYLE A vs STYLE B - VERIFY BEFORE ORDERING Kohler produced these engines with two different piston ring thicknesses: 1.5mm rings (Style A) - this kit 1.2mm rings (Style B) - different kit required Measure your existing top ring thickness on your current piston. If your rings measure 1.5mm, this kit is correct. If they measure 1.2mm, order the 1.2mm Style B ring kit instead. Note: This verification only matters for RING-ONLY kits like this one. Complete rebuild kits that include new pistons don't require ring style verification because the pistons and rings are replaced together as a matched set. - WHILE THE ENGINE IS APART - Hone both cylinders so the new rings have a crosshatch to bed into, check the crank journals and rod clearance, and fit new valve stem seals and a breather gasket while you have access to them. Rings cure oil consumption on a bore that is still round and within taper; on a scored or hard glazed cylinder they will not seal. Pistons, wrist pins and clips are not included.
