Clutch drum with integral spur sprocket for the Homelite Super XL and XL-12 family, 7 tooth, 3/8 inch pitch, supplied with a needle bearing at no extra charge. Replaces Homelite A95459 and cross references to 30681. Serial number note, and it is the most important line on this page: this drum fits saws built after serial number 1735838. Saws below that serial use an earlier drum with the bearing pressed in and the two are not interchangeable. The serial is stamped on the crankcase. The bearing supplied measures 5 8 inch inside diameter by 3 4 inch outside diameter so you can compare it to the one in your saw. Pitch note: Homelite also sold a 7 tooth spur drum in .404 inch pitch for these same models, so tooth count by itself does not identify the part. Measure three consecutive rivet centres on your chain, where 3/8 inch pitch spans three quarters of an inch and .404 spans about 0.808 inch, or read the chain tag, where a 72, 73 or 75 series chain is 3/8 inch pitch. This is a drum rather than a rim; the teeth are machined into the drum and the whole clutch and drum assembly comes off to change it. Fits Super XL, Super XL Automatic, SXL, XL-12, 450, 550, VI944, VI955, the six shoe clutch SXL 925 and Super XL 925, and the Remington PKL-4, PL-5, PL-55, SL11, Woodsman and Logger. Clutch shoes, spider and washers are not included and transfer from the old drum. Fit the new bearing with the drum, check the inner race 65746-B for scoring while you are in there, and replace a stretched chain at the same time.
- CHECK YOUR SERIAL NUMBER FIRST - THIS IS THE ONE THAT MATTERS - This sprocket fits Homelite saws built after serial number 1735838. Before that break Homelite used a different drum with the bearing pressed in, and the two are not interchangeable. The serial is stamped on the crankcase. If yours is below 1735838 you need the earlier pressed bearing drum instead, and ordering this one will cost you a return. Everything else on this page assumes you have checked that first.
- WHAT COMES IN THE BOX - The clutch drum with its spur sprocket teeth cut into it, as one piece, plus a needle bearing included at no charge. The bearing measures 5 8 inch inside diameter and 3 4 inch outside diameter, so you can check it against the one in your saw before fitting. Replaces Homelite A95459 and cross references to 30681. No clutch shoes, no spider and no washers - those come off your old drum and go back on.
- 7 TOOTH, 3/8 INCH PITCH - AND TOOTH COUNT ALONE WILL NOT TELL YOU - Homelite also sold a 7 tooth spur drum in .404 inch pitch for these same saws, so counting teeth proves nothing. Measure three consecutive rivet centres on your chain: 3/8 inch pitch spans three quarters of an inch, .404 spans about 0.808 inch. Or read the chain tag - a 72, 73 or 75 series chain is 3/8 inch and a 59, 27 or 18 is .404. Match the sprocket to the chain and bar you are actually running.
- THIS IS A DRUM, NOT A RIM - The sprocket teeth are machined into the clutch drum itself, so you pull the whole clutch and drum assembly to change it. If your saw has been converted to a rim drive setup, where a separate splined rim slides onto the drum, this is not the part you want. Fits Super XL, Super XL Automatic, SXL, XL-12, 450, 550, VI944, VI955, and the six shoe clutch SXL 925 and Super XL 925, along with the Remington PKL-4, PL-5, PL-55, SL11, Woodsman and Logger.
- FIT THE BEARING AND CHECK THE CHAIN - Put the new needle bearing in with the drum rather than reusing the old one, because a worn bearing lets the drum wobble and that chews the next sprocket as fast as the last one. A light smear of bar grease is enough. Fit a new chain at the same time if the old one has stretched, because a worn chain and a new sprocket destroy each other inside a tank of fuel. Check the inner race, 65746-B, for scoring while the drum is off.
