Tune up kit for Homelite Super 2, S2, XL, XL2 and 3514C chainsaws. Includes two air filters, a fuel filter and a spark plug. The second air filter is deliberate. These saws load a filter quickly in dry or dusty cutting, and having a spare means changing it in the field rather than stopping for the day. Most running complaints on a stored saw come from stale fuel leaving varnish in the system, which blocks the fuel filter and fouls the plug, combined with a loaded air filter that richens the mixture until the engine four-strokes and bogs. Replacing all four parts addresses the common causes in a single service, before any carburetor work is considered. Also check the fuel line and the fuel tank vent. The original line hardens and cracks with age, which lets the engine draw air and run lean, and a blocked vent starves the saw after a few minutes of cutting. Both are inexpensive and both are frequently overlooked.

  • FITS HOMELITE SUPER 2, S2, XL, XL2 AND 3514C CHAINSAWS. The Super 2 and XL2 were among the most widely sold homeowner saws ever built and a great many are still running. This is the service kit for one that has been sitting in a shed and needs bringing back.
  • TWO AIR FILTERS, A FUEL FILTER AND A SPARK PLUG. The second air filter is the point of the kit - these saws load their filter quickly in dusty cutting and a spare on the shelf means the saw keeps working instead of stopping mid-job. All four parts fit together as one service.
  • THE FIRST THING TO TRY ON A SAW THAT WILL NOT RUN RIGHT. Stale fuel leaves varnish that blocks the fuel filter and fouls the plug, and a loaded air filter richens the mixture until the saw four-strokes and bogs. Replacing all four parts clears the common causes in one go, before any carburetor work.
  • PARTS FOR A SAW THE MANUFACTURER NO LONGER SUPPORTS. Homelite stopped supplying these models long ago. Reproduction service parts are what keeps a working saw out of the scrap pile when the dealer network has nothing left on the shelf.
  • CHECK THE FUEL LINE AND TANK VENT AS WELL. The original fuel line goes hard and cracks with age, which lets the engine pull air and run lean, and a blocked tank vent will starve the saw after a few minutes of cutting. Both are cheap and both are commonly missed on a tune up.
