Fuel tank cap for the Homelite Super XL and XL-12 family, replacing Homelite A-69500-A, also catalogued as UP06559. Fits Super XL, Super XL Automatic, SXL, XL-12, XL98A and XL98C. The model numbers 10045, 10045A, 10045B, 10045C and 10045D are Homelite machine numbers for the Super XL Automatic, so a saw with any of those on its decal takes this cap. Important thread note: Homelite used a coarse single lead thread on the later caps and a finer thread earlier in the production run, and the two are not interchangeable. A coarse thread cap seats in about one turn and has a visibly chunky thread form. If your cap takes two or more turns to seat, it is the fine thread type and this cap will not fit that tank. This is the fuel cap only. The bar oil filler cap is a separate part, A-63717-C or UP06813. The 69500 number family also splits across several caps: a bare 69500 or 69500-A is catalogued for the 350, 360 and 35SL, and A-69500 on its own is catalogued for the 450, so read the full number off your old cap rather than matching digits alone. The cork gasket for the coarse thread cap is 69501 and is sold separately. If the saw has been running lean or spitting fuel back at the cap, check the tank vent valve, Homelite 69541, before blaming the cap.
- FUEL CAP FOR THE SUPER XL AND XL-12 FAMILY - Replaces Homelite A-69500-A, also catalogued as UP06559. Fits Super XL, Super XL Automatic, SXL, XL-12, XL98A and XL98C, including the Super XL Automatic sold under the model numbers 10045, 10045A, 10045B, 10045C and 10045D. Those five are machine model numbers rather than part numbers, so if the decal on your saw reads 10045 anything, you have a Super XL Automatic and this is your cap.
- COARSE THREAD - COUNT THE TURNS BEFORE YOU ORDER - Homelite used a coarse single lead thread on the later caps and a finer thread earlier in the run, and the two do not interchange. A coarse thread cap spins down in roughly one turn and the thread looks chunky with a wide gap between crests. A fine thread cap takes two or more turns. If yours takes two or more turns, this is not the cap for that tank. That one check takes five seconds and saves a return.
- THIS IS THE FUEL CAP, NOT THE OIL CAP - The bar oil filler on these saws takes a different cap, A-63717-C, also sold as UP06813, and the two are not interchangeable even though they sit side by side on the housing. Check which filler you are standing over before ordering. A cracked or missing fuel cap is also worth fixing straight away rather than running with a rag stuffed in the hole, because every bit of sawdust that gets past it ends up in the carburetor.
- NOT EVERY 69500 NUMBER IS THE SAME CAP - The number family splits. A-69500-A, which is this cap, is catalogued for the XL98A, XL98C, Super XL, SXL and XL-12. A bare 69500 or 69500-A is catalogued for a different group including the 350, 360 and 35SL. A-69500 on its own is the 450. If the number stamped or printed on your old cap has different prefixes and suffixes to A-69500-A, read it carefully rather than assuming the digits are enough.
- CHECK THE GASKET AND THE TANK VENT - A cap seals against a gasket, and a cap that holds pressure on the bench can still weep if the gasket face on the tank is scored. The cork gasket for the coarse thread cap is 69501 and it is sold separately. If the saw has been starving for fuel or spitting at the cap, check the tank vent too: these saws vent through a duckbill valve, Homelite 69541, and a blocked one pulls a vacuum in the tank and leans the saw out. A new cap will not fix a plugged vent.
