A rebuild kit for the Briggs & Stratton 8 HP L-head (side valve) aluminum-block engines, models 190400 to 196799, horizontal or vertical shaft. The kit contains a standard 3-inch piston, rings with a three-piece oil ring, a connecting rod, and the complete gasket set with seals. It replaces kit numbers 299573, 391673 and 499907 and piston and ring numbers 299743, 499921 and 391669. The piston is standard bore, for a cylinder that has not been bored; a bored cylinder needs a .010 or .020 oversize piston. These engines power mowers, tillers, generators and go-karts. Before assembly, check the crankpin for wear before fitting the new rod, check ring end gap in the bore, and tighten the rod bolts to the service manual torque.
