Eleven piece carburetor rebuild kit RB-15 for the C2 series diaphragm carburetor. Services carburetor castings C2-20-01, C2-20-01A, C2-20-02, C2-20-02A, C2-L1, C2-L1A and C2-M3A, as fitted to the Homelite XL-12 and SXL and to the McCulloch PM 800, PM 850 and SP-81. Identify your carburetor before ordering. The Homelite Super XL family was produced over many years and was built with two different carburetors depending on the year, and only the C2 series is covered by this kit. A carburetor that will not hold an idle, floods on restart, leaks fuel or leans out once hot usually has a stiffened metering diaphragm and an inlet needle that no longer seals. Strip the carburetor completely, clean the passages, and fit every piece in the kit rather than replacing one part. Replace the fuel line and tank filter at the same time, since cracked fuel line draws air and mimics a carburetor fault.
- REBUILDS THE C2 SERIES DIAPHRAGM CARBURETOR, kit number RB-15, eleven pieces. Covers carburetor castings C2-20-01, C2-20-01A, C2-20-02, C2-20-02A, C2-L1, C2-L1A and C2-M3A. These were fitted to the Homelite XL-12 and SXL, and to the McCulloch PM 800, PM 850 and SP-81.
- CHECK YOUR CARBURETOR BEFORE ORDERING. This is the one thing that matters on this kit. The Homelite Super XL family was built over a long run and came with two entirely different carburetors depending on the year. Look at the carburetor body: if it is stamped C2-20 or C2-M3A, this is your kit. If it carries an SDC casting number, you need a different kit and this one will not fit it.
- WHAT A KIT FIXES. A saw that will not hold an idle, floods on restart, leaks fuel, or runs fine cold then leans out hot is usually telling you the metering diaphragm has gone stiff and the inlet needle is not sealing. Both are in the kit. Ethanol fuel and a few years of sitting will do this to any diaphragm carburetor.
- DO THE WHOLE CARBURETOR. All eleven pieces are there for a reason and there is no point replacing one diaphragm while reusing a hardened gasket. Take it apart completely, clean the passages with carburetor cleaner and compressed air, fit every piece in the kit, and set the mixture screws to a starting position from your manual before you try to start it.
- WHILE YOU ARE IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. Replace the fuel line and the tank filter at the same time. Old fuel line on these saws cracks where it enters the tank and draws air, which produces exactly the same lean running symptoms as a bad carburetor and will have you chasing the problem after a fresh kit is fitted.
