Overhaul kit for the Briggs & Stratton 40 cubic inch Intek V-twins, models 405777, 406777 and 407777, at the 75.44mm (2.970 inch) standard bore. The kit contains two 499604 piston ring sets, one per cylinder, and the 694012 engine gasket set with seals. Pistons, connecting rods and valves are not included. The 499604 rings were used on these engines before code date 06082400; engines built after that take ring set 791787, so read the code on the engine. The kit is not for the 44 cubic inch engines (441677, 441777, 445577, 445677, 445777): those have a 79.25mm bore and a different ring set, although the 694012 gasket set fits both. Before assembly, measure each bore for size and taper, hone lightly if they are within limits, check ring end gap in the bore, fit the rings marked side up with the gaps staggered, and follow the service manual for torque on the heads and covers.

- MEASURE, HONE, THEN RING - Check each bore for size and taper against the service manual. If they are within limits, a light hone gives the new rings a crosshatch to seat against. Check ring end gap in the bore, fit the rings marked side up and stagger the gaps around the piston.
