Two standard 499604 piston ring sets for the Briggs & Stratton 40 cubic inch Intek V-twin, models 405777, 406777 and 407777, at the 75.44mm (2.970 inch) standard bore. Each set has a top compression ring, a second compression ring and a three-piece oil ring, one set per cylinder. Pistons, gaskets and valves are not included. The 499604 rings were used on these engines before code date 06082400; later engines take ring set 791787. The code date is stamped next to the model number and reads year, month, day, so 06082400 is 24 August 2006. The sets do not fit the 44 cubic inch engines, which have a 79.25mm bore. These are standard-bore rings for a cylinder that has not been bored oversize. Before assembly, check ring end gap in the bore and the condition of the ring grooves, since worn grooves need a new piston, and use a ring compressor.
