One standard piston ring set, part number 697683, for one cylinder of the Briggs & Stratton 44 cubic inch Intek V-twin at the 79.25mm (3.120 inch) bore. The engine has two cylinders, so a full ring job needs two sets. The compression rings are 1.5mm thick. Pistons and gaskets are not included. Parts lists show 697683 as the early standard ring set on models 446677, 446777 and 446977; engines built from code date 05071800 on take ring set 792026 instead. The 441 and 445 series engines list ring set 694004 for the early standard rings, so read the model, type and code on the engine shroud and match the number in your parts list before ordering. Measure the bore for size and taper, hone lightly, check end gap in the bore, fit the rings marked side up with the gaps staggered, and use a ring compressor on assembly.

  • STANDARD BORE ONLY - Measure the bore for size and taper before ordering. An engine bored oversize needs oversize rings, and a bore past its wear limit needs more than rings.
  • FITTING THE RINGS - Hone lightly so the rings have a crosshatch to seat against, check end gap in the bore, fit the rings marked side up, stagger the gaps and use a ring compressor going into the cylinder.
